My inspiration for painting 'Morning Shadows' comes from the many quiet and peaceful dog walks I've enjoyed along the Peak Forest canal in Romiley. Capturing this calmness on a beautiful summers early morning would be very different from when the 220 year old waterway was first built as a major form of industrial transport. Back in the 1800's horses would tow the narrow boats carrying their cargo 14 miles from Derbyshire to the town of Ashton-under-Lyne.
Today the scene is very different, leisure craft use the canal, along side cyclists, dog walkers, runners and even anglers hoping for a bite. But when you find yourself alone on a beautiful day, as I have tried to capture in the painting. The rising sun glistens through the trees, casting shadows all around in the warmth of a new day, a world away from the busy commuting street life just a few minutes walk from this spot. A calming little gem of a place I call home.
