I created this painting of a magnificent view I had come across of a tiny hamlet called Snowgate Head, Holmfirth, in West Yorkshire, while preparing for my very first solo show in 1997, having only begun painting seriously since 1992.
Painted largely ‘Plein Air’ , sitting on a wall on top of that ridge outside Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, overlooking that lovely view, I found that eventually I was able to immerse myself to the degree that a subconscious dreamlike state appeared to then ‘take over’. 
As a result I was finding animate elements introducing themselves, much to my astonishment!
