Collection: Steven Bruce

I was born and raised in Ashton-under-Lyne but had lived in Blackpool since 1997. Originally a hairdresser, I began painting by chance at the age of 38 in 1994, when my partner at the time gave me a paint set as a birthday gift. From the first moment art became an obsession, to the point that, in 2001 I gave up hairdressing and became a postie with Royal Mail to allow more time for painting.

Since taking medical retirement from Royal Mail in 2013, I have painted full-time and created a website in 2014 at stevenbruceart.co.uk

I paint exclusively in oils, mainly focusing on places and people that are relevant to my past and present, though I do occasionally like to try other subjects. In 2014 I was the winner at Lytham Art Festival, and in 2016 held a successful solo exhibition at Stockport War Memorial and Art Gallery. In February 2018 I featured in Lancashire Life as their artist of the month. In July 2018, Blackpool Winter Gardens selected my painting titled 'Crowds Flock to the Winter Gardens for Another Top Show' as the winner of their 14th Anniversary Art Competition.

In 2022 in an open exhibition at Inch Arts gallery in Altrincham my painting of a tram approaching Piccadilly was judged second place by TV Arts presenter Diana Ali.

I can be found on Twitter as @bruceyart, on Facebook under steven bruce artist and on Instagram under matblack8. Images and details of my paintings can be found on my website and also prints are available.

Commissions welcome. To see more of my heart, 'The Brighter Times' Gift Shop on Clifton Street in Lytham have over 50 of my paintings on view and for sale. I also have a great selection at the Goose Green Art Gallery in Altrincham, Cheshire.
