Collection: Rachael Walker

For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved to be creative.  At York university I achieved a BA (HONS) 2:1 in Art and Design and then went on to complete a MSc with distinction in textile design at Huddersfield university. After spending a few years in the textile industry in 2008 I decided to work from home as a freelance embroidery digitizer. This freed up time to spend in the studio and now I’m able to paint on a daily basis which is what I love to do.

Based in Shrewsbury I am inspired by the landscape around me, from the rolling hills to the windswept coastal panoramas of the Welsh seaboard I seek to capture the beauty in our surroundings in a textured abstract contemporary form. Primarily focusing on landscape painting, I build up layers of texture using a variety of mediums which I then paint over with deep intense hues of acrylic, I can spend many afternoons working on the same piece building up layers to create depth and atmosphere. These paintings evolve from memory and experience with attention to movement and light. I have now been selling my work over the last 12 years and exhibit in galleries throughout the UK as well as participating in many local annual exhibitions in Shropshire.
