Collection: Debbie Lord

I was born in lovely Littleborough in 1973. I currently live in Milnrow with my family.

My interest in art started at Smithy Bridge Primary School. I knew I wanted to be an Artist of some sort by the time I went up to Wardle High School.

But my journey really began at Stockport College where I discovered my love of pattern, texture and colour.

I then went on to Cleveland College of Art & Design and completed a HND in textiles and surface print design.

I have been very lucky to have had a successful career to date, working for various textile studios, designing prints for bedding, fabrics or any product with a pattern. They have been then sold in the UK and around the world to textile manufacturers and home stores.

Fun Fact: I once sold a collection of Christmas prints to Tommy Hilfiger at a show in New York.

After being made redundant in 2021, I had an urge to explore new ways of unleashing my creativity. I joined the UK's No. 1 'sip and paint' company, Pop Up Painting, as a part-time artist. This re-ignited my passion to paint. I felt so liberated when I painted, after years of digital designing.

I enthusiastically joined an art group in Mossley who met on a Thursday morning, ran by another Littleborough artist, Susan Aggarwal. Here I started to explore and develop my own painting style - freedom to paint!

My art work is about my love for nature. Spending time in nature is a gift to enjoy, getting outside is good for the soul. This is celebrated in my paintings. I like to capture beauty and freedom. I want my artwork to 'bring the outside in', so you can always be reminded to 'take 5' and connect with nature.

My art doesn't portray an accurate flower or perfect waves on the sea. Instead, it's about making marks dance on the canvas and the spontaneity of the movement. I want people to feel the joy.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Online Gallery.

Love
Debbie
